Active adult living along the Grand Strand ranges from new Del Webb neighborhoods a golf cart ride from the beach to gated, established communities in Murrells Inlet and Conway. This guide compares the communities buyers ask us about most, what each one offers, and the questions worth asking before you tour.
These are the 55+ and active adult communities we see most often on the Grand Strand. Details come from community and builder materials and MLS descriptions, so confirm current rules, fees, and amenities with each association before you buy.
Del Webb's first Myrtle Beach community was announced in 2017 inside the Grande Dunes master plan. Listing descriptions highlight a clubhouse with indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center, pickleball, tennis and bocce, a lifestyle director, and golf-cart friendly streets. They also describe ownership as including access to the private Grande Dunes Ocean Club, so ask the association what is included today. See the broader Grande Dunes guide for the surrounding neighborhoods.
Built on roughly 170 acres that once held the Possum Trot Golf Course, this community is planned for more than 500 homes and sits about a mile or so from the ocean. Listing descriptions mention a clubhouse with a fitness center, indoor lap pool and outdoor pool, plus an HOA that covers lawn care, high-speed internet and cable. Much of the inventory is newer construction.
Cresswind is marketed as a resort-style active adult community with an amenity center, pool, pickleball, tennis and bocce, walking trails, and natural gas service. Several MLS descriptions note there is no deeded age restriction even though some listings carry a 55+ flag, so verify the rules with the association. It sits next to the shops and dining of Market Common.
A gated, golf-cart friendly community with a clubhouse, indoor and outdoor pools, fitness center, tennis, and an on-site lifestyle director. Listing descriptions say the HOA includes items such as internet, trash pickup, lawn service and irrigation. It is part of the larger Prince Creek area, a short drive from the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk.
An established gated 55+ community in Conway, often a lower entry price than the beach-side options. It is a good fit if you want a quieter inland setting and are comfortable with a short drive to the coast.
As of October 2026, about 80 active listings across the Grand Strand carry the MLS 55+ adult community flag, from roughly $110,000 to over $2 million. That flag also covers manufactured-home and park communities, which is why the low end is so much lower than the Del Webb and Cresswind neighborhoods. Figures change daily.
